Hiking

For Helene and Albert Schweitzer and their daughter Rhena, Königsfeld in the Black Forest was a European home for many years. When Albert Schweitzer made the decision to return to Lambarene, Africa, after the First World War, he wanted his family to have a home in a spiritually free and healthy climate. Helene could no longer accompany him because of a lung disease, and so they opted for the healing climate in Königsfeld, which they knew from an earlier stay at a spa.
