Brief description

Starting from the Greiner Danube bridge, the Matrassteig winds like a high mountain path over almost 300 meters in altitude up to the Brandstetterkogel. A unique experience in the rugged slopes of the Strudengau.

Starting at the Danube bridge Grein (in the curve of the federal road 119), a steep path leads to a hill. The almost horizontal hiking trail that now runs almost horizontally along the entire mountain flank with imposing boulders (the path leads through under stones) and an impressive view of the Danube valley ends with a final ascent at the Brandstetterkogel hut. The path is named after Edaurd Matras (1862 - 1945), the president of the "Austrian Tourist Club" from 1912 - 1939. If you like, you can descend halfway to Wiesen (snack bar).
