The mill with the nearby castle has traditionally belonged to the estate of the seigniory of Waardenburg.

Before 1780 there was almost certainly a post mill, also known as a post mill, on the site of this flour mill. The post mill was blown over, restored, and finally demolished around 1780 and replaced by the current hexagonal mill. Parts of the old post mill can still be found in the current mill.
The mill, located on the Waalbandijk, was drained and leased by the van Aken family for more than 200 years. During the First World War (1914-1918) the mill was used to generate electricity by miller A. van Ielen.
