The church was built in 1407. The building was completely destroyed in a fire in 1480 and rebuilt in the late Gothic style between 1505 and 1511. Martin Luther is said to have preached here in 1542. In the years 1661 to 1663 the church tower received a hood with a lantern. A restoration took place in 1988/1989.
A very special treasure in the church is the famous high altar from 1625.
