This stone cross, which does not include the body of the crucified Christ, is evidence of the rural and at the same time pious tradition of the area around Xanten. The engraved saying, whose inscription above was already passed down by Martina, contains a double request: firstly, protection from bad weather - which would be a potential threat to the harvest - and secondly, a blessing for a good harvest. It would therefore be classified as a field cross rather than a wayside cross, but for the passing hiker/walker this purely theoretical distinction is irrelevant anyway.
