Wiesenthau Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1379 when it was sold to the Bamberg Monastery. The lords of Wiesenthau continued to own the castle as feudal people. Until it died out in 1814, Wiesenthau Castle remained largely owned by the family. Then the castle fell to the Bavarian king. Badly damaged by the Hussites in 1430 and badly in the Peasants' War in 1525. A fundamental renovation took place in 1566. From 1985 to 1992, Wiesenthau Castle was extensively renovated. Today the castle is used as a hotel, restaurant with beer garden and for events.
