The Ochsenbrunnen used to supply the residents of Stockheim with water. It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that a water pipe was built in Stockheim and the fountain was abandoned.

In the past, the Ochsenbrunnen often served as the only source of water for the people of Stockheim in dry summers. The well was sometimes also used to operate a steam engine. With the installation of the Stockheim water pipe around 1905, the well was abandoned.
