The Treetop Walk Saarschleife is a 1,250 meter long canopy walkway in the Orscholz area of Mettlach, Germany. Built atop a rocky vantage point known as the "Cloef", it offers visitors views of the Saarschleife. The major Saarland tourist attraction is operated by "Erlebnis Akademie AG."

      The Cloef

The Cloef (French: la clœf) is a rocky viewpoint at the top of the Saar loop in the Mettlach district of Orscholz, where a protruding rock formation made of Taunus quartzite stretches down to the Saar and in earlier times represented an obstacle to shipping. There are two origins of the name Cloef Theories. One version derives it from the Latin CLIVUS or CLEVUS, meaning “hillside”. This would correspond to the rock formation on which the Cloefschutzhütte stands. Another version derives the name from Celtic, according to which it refers to a “rocky notched valley”. The unique Cloef viewing point is located 200m above the Saar loop on a rock made of Taunus quartzite. The loop already existed around 5.3-2.6 million years ago in the form of a double meander. The area around it is dominated by very resistant, Devonian Taunus quartzite, which is why the Saar bounced off the rocks due to the hard rock and changed its flow direction. An 8 km long valley meander was created, the Saar loop.

The view from the Cloef to the Saarschleife is overwhelming. But the view from the banks of the Saar up to the observation tower is also an impressive perspective.
