Tips
Built between 1901 and 1905 and expanded in several sections between 1927 and 1949, the Köpenick town hall has been a listed building since 1982. The building became world famous just a year after it was built by the so-called Captain von Köpenick. The unemployed shoemaker Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt arrested Mayor Georg Langhans on October 16, 1906 in a captain's uniform and with the support of ten soldiers who had been summoned and seized the city treasury.
