The Kreuzgarten was created in 1950. At the suggestion of the retired pastor Peter Schallenberg, who had discovered a blasted Westwall bunker on the Karstraße, the Schaagers laid paths in the surrounding forest and built stations of the cross.

A seven meter high wooden cross, which bears the inscription CREDO (I believe) on both beams in the form of a cross, dominates the entire complex. A memorial was erected between the Hochkreuz and the Ölberg grotto. Since then, the population has been meeting here on Pentecost to commemorate the victims of World War II in Schaag.
