The new town hall of Ochsenfurt forms with the lance tower a landmark of the city. The year 1497 is chiseled above the town hall, but the building was not completed until 1513 and two years later it was extended.

Ochsenfurt is a town in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg and is located in the southern Main triangle. The historic old town has largely preserved medieval fortifications with numerous towers and city gates. Ochsenfurt used to belong to the cathedral chapter in Würzburg.

The first documented mention was in 725, when a monastery was founded in the city on behalf of Boniface. Thekla of Kitzingen was an abbess. There may have been a royal court in Ochsenfurt up until the 11th century. The walls and towers date from the 14th century. Since that time, the city was part of the Bishopric of Würzburg, which also belonged to the Franconian Empire. Only with the construction of the bridge in 1512 did Ochsenfurt gain economic importance. In 1525 there were uprisings during the Peasants' War. The new town hall was already completed in 1497. St. Andrew's Church was consecrated in 1288. In Ochsenfurt there was a medieval leprosarium that was probably founded in the 14th century.

Ochsenfurt first fell to Bavaria in 1803, then to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg in 1806, after which it reverted to Bavaria in 1813.
