The Blaubrunnen owes its name to the bluish shimmer that the plant-covered ground gives it, or to the fact that laundry used to be rinsed here (in local dialect, "geflaut"), and the actual name "Flaubrunnen" was later reinterpreted as "Blaubrunnen". The spring has been "known since ancient times as a health water and used by the residents of the area", as it says in a description from 1859.
