The original Chinese teahouse Hamburg Yu Garden in the Hamburg district of Rothenbaum was built based on the architectural model of the Huxinting teahouse in Shanghai and was given to Hamburg by its twin city Shanghai.
In the inner courtyard and in the entrance area, natural landscapes with light stones,
water and various plants and stone lion statues are reminiscent of Chinese culture.
The ceremonial opening took place in 2008 as part of CHINA TIME by the then mayor Ole von Beust and a delegation from Shanghai. The usage concept at the time - with a restaurant - had proven to be unsustainable, which is why it had to be closed for some time. The teahouse Hamburg Yu Garden can soon be visited again and offers its guests fine teas, Chinese music and information on the subject of Chinese tea. Those interested can also take part in traditional tea ceremonies. The rooms are also used for various events organized by the Hamburg China Society, the Chinese-German Society and the Confucius Institute.
But private individuals can also make use of the 1,200 square meters and hold meetings, conferences or private celebrations. There are two halls with space for around 350 people. In addition, various smaller rooms offer space for confidential meetings and fireside chats in an extraordinary ambience. The Chinese gardens and the inner courtyard offer plenty of open space for standing receptions on mild summer days.

The "Yu Garden" teahouse is a gift from Shanghai to the twin city of Hamburg. It is a replica of the historic Hu Xin Ting tea house in Shanghai and was built in 2008 partly from Chinese original materials. For events to rent and headquarters of the Confucius Institute of the University of Hamburg. yu-garden.de

The Chinese ⛩️ tea house Yu Garden is a visible sign of an animated city partnership between the metropolises of Hamburg and Shanghai. It was opened in 2007. Pagoda roofs, the obligatory crane (brings 🍀 luck) and a beautifully landscaped pond on the premises conjure up a very special atmosphere.
