ENCI has restored its quarry in Maastricht
In June 2018, the exploitation of the ENCI quarry in Maastricht was definitively shut down. The company, for whom returning the area to nature was a matter of course, subsequently redeveloped it before handing it over to a conservation organization. The transformation plan was taken into account during the redevelopment: a plan that was jointly drawn up by ENCI, the Province of Limburg, the municipality of Maastricht, Natuurmonumenten (organization for the protection of cultural and natural heritage) and the Sint-Pietersberg Adembenemend Foundation, a local residents' association. The redevelopment of the quarry was completed in mid-July 2019. Paths, a viewpoint, forest and grasslands have been created. At the beginning of 2020, the management of the site was transferred to Natuurmonumenten, which has now also become the owner.
