Earnsdale reservoir (Dean) is situated in the shadow of Darwen Tower, close to Sunnyhurst wood, which is a beautiful 85-acre wooded valley and is a beautiful location for family walks and picnics. The reservoir offers excellent bank fishing and is one where anglers and expect good sport using a variety of methods.

Earnsdale Reservoir is one of many water supply reservoirs in the West Pennine Moors, being one of five that run in a line from the three Roddlesworth Reservoirs in the west to the Sunnyhurst Hey Reservoir in the east. Unlike some of the others in the area, there is no circular trail around Earnsdale. However, the track along its northern edge still provides lovely views of classic moorland countryside, with Darwen Tower poking above the hillside to the east.
