The walls around the old town are imposing. UNESCO sees the city fortifications as a prime example, both in terms of fulfilling military requirements and also in terms of Renaissance architecture.

The length of the city wall is around 2 km if you count all the projections. The wall is up to 20 meters high, and its military and visual effect is enhanced by its location on the mountain.

The fortification also includes seven bastions. The interior can be entered and exited through five entrances. The Portal de ses Taules is the main portal.

The city can be circumnavigated on the battlements of the Wall. Today the bastions are excellent vantage points. The Baluard de Santa Llúcia and the Baluard de Santa Tecla offer views of the port and the sea. The Baluard de Sant Bernat and Baluard de Sant Jordi offer the best view towards Platja d'en Bossa and the salt pans.

Information boards are installed on the western section of the wall, telling more about the walls and their defences.

The 'Almudaina', which is currently connected to the castle, was originally the administrative and military seat of the Muslim 'wali'.

The 'Almudaina' is a fortress that housed the military and administrative facilities of the Muslim 'wali'. It has an elongated floor plan and has nine square towers throughout its area. Although various archaeological excavations have uncovered structural remains dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, the current structure dates from the 16th ('Ses Voltes' building, the gate of which is crowned by the coats of arms of the Aragonese Crown and Governor Alonso de Zanoguera ) and the 18th century (barracks of the infantry battalion around the parade ground).
