If sightseeing is not possible, you can walk around the castle at the foot of the walls. There are several places where there are nice views of the surrounding towns and the Tenczyn forest. You can get to the main gate by a 3km driveway on a gravel road, but a much better option for me was to leave my equipment at the lower parking lot and walk up 0.6km on a road through the forest. I highly recommend it. MC

Tenczyn Castle - ruins of a castle located in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, incorporated in the 14th century into the Kazimierz system of the so-called Eagle's Nests, in the village of Rudno.

The first mention of the area around Tenczyn Castle is dated 24 September 1308. At that time, Władysław Łokietek with a detachment of knights staying in the forests in Thanczin issued a document for the monastery of the Cistercian Fathers in Sulejów. It is assumed that the first castle (wooden) was built around 1319 by the Kraków castellan Nawój of Morawica. He erected the largest tower in the castle, known to this day as the "Nawojowa Tower". The actual creator of the brick castle was Nawoj's son, Jędrzej (Andrzej), voivode of Kraków and Sandomierz. On the highest, north-eastern part of the hill, he erected another part of the castle, where he lived and died in 1368. He was also the first to take the surname Tęczyński. Jędrzej's son, Jaśko, renovated and significantly expanded the castle, and also founded a chapel. The first mention of the castle directly recorded in historical documents comes from this period. Władysław Jagiełło imprisoned some of the most important Teutonic prisoners there, taken prisoner during the Battle of Grunwald.
