The Wandfluh chapel is located near Turtig / Raron high above the valley floor, nestled against the steep mountain wall overgrown with pines. Brick stations of the crossroads line the narrow path that leads past Büchen down to the valley floor. This path used to be the church path of the people of Bürchner, who had to attend the Sunday service in the castle church in Raron.
Today the Kapellenweg to the Wandfluhkapelle is a popular walk up to Bürchen or from the Schattenberge down into the valley. It is unique in its landscape in Valais, overshadowed by wild pines, with an impressive view of the magnificent Rhone Valley and the mighty mountains rising from the valley floor.

The Wandfluh Chapel was built at the end of the 17th century and extended in 1770. It is a pilgrimage chapel dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary. The Wandfluh chapel has a narrow floor plan and is built onto the mountain flank on one long side. On the valley side it has two light floors. The retracted, barred choir contains a beautiful baroque altar by Johann Ritz, 1695.

The nave of the chapel is long and narrow and has a small gallery in the back, which has a direct exit to a small forecourt in the open air. A beautiful choir arch crucifix, also by Johann Ritz, and a graceful pulpit decorate the interior of the chapel.

The interior of the chapel can be reached via two entrances from the steep mule path that runs alongside the chapel, one at the back, which is almost at ground level, and the other at the front, which can be reached via an outside staircase.

The Wandfluh chapel was restored in 1978-1984 and refurbished in 1998-1999.
