Best Hikes to Bietschtal Bridge on the Lötschberg Southern Ramp

Tips

  • The hiking trail along the southern ramp of the Lötschbergbahn (BLS) is walked in the classic way from Hohtenn to Brig, in two to three days. A particularly beautiful section is the path from the Bietschbachtal with the Bietschtalbrücke to Ausserberg. Wide views over the Rhone Valley, famous for the rich flora and fauna with its sub-Mediterranean character. In addition, the bisses, water intakes and the railway with its bridges, tunnels and auxiliary structures. You can spend a lot of time there.

The path is well marked and cannot be missed. Again and again information boards on the building history and landscape as well as rest areas (e.g. Riedgarten), flyers with maps at the train stations. Difficulty level T2.

  • Of course, the BLS southern ramp goes much further to Brig.

  • Another highlight of the hike is the hiking trail along the Suonen (water pipes). There are historical still existing water pipes in the canton of Valais. They are particularly easy to see here on the Lötschberg southern ramp.
