The famous calculating master was born in 1492 in Bad Staffelstein. That is why Bad Staffelstein is also called the "Adam Riese City". The saying "That makes according to Adam Riese..." is still frequently used. Even though the calculating master's name gained fame, his revolutionary ideas are not very well known. His publications at the time form the basis for today's calculation principles. For the 450th anniversary of Adam Riese's death in 2009, the Adam Riese monument by Andreas Krämmer was inaugurated in Bahnhofstraße / corner of Marktplatz. It shows the calculating master with a student.
