The famous arithmetic master was born in Bad Staffelstein in 1492. That's why Bad Staffelstein is also known as the "Adam Giant City". The idiom "That makes after Adam-Riese..." is still commonly used. Even if the name of the arithmetic master became famous, his revolutionary ideas are not very well known. His publications at that time form the basis for today's calculation principles. On the 450th anniversary of Adam Riese's death in 2009, the Adam Riese memorial was dedicated by Andreas Krämmer on the corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Marktplatz. It shows the arithmetic master with a student.
