According to one tradition, a carriage is said to have sunk at this point, according to another, there is said to have been a brutal stagecoach attack here. Both traditions can be read in the Fürstenwalde local chronicle. The local researcher received the last certainty that it was really a pilgrim's cross from Gerold Bobe. The Müglitzer can still remember pilgrims who stopped in front of the cross to pray. They were apparently on their way from Dresden to the Mariaschein pilgrimage church near Krupka (Graupen) or to the Osek/Ossegg monastery. (Source: Sächsische Zeitung 15.10.2010)
