This impressive stone sculpture was created by Adolf Mayer from Tramin in South Tyrol in 2010.
The stone berries of the red Riesling are made of porphyry rock, those of the white Riesling are made of granite pebbles.

The "Wine and Stone Adventure Trail" presents interesting facts about wine, grape varieties, geology, climate, history, lifestyle, flora and fauna of the region at 77 stations and with numerous illustrated signs over a distance of 6.9 km (shortcuts possible). There are also some stone sculptures to be found, as here.

The idea for the sculpture came about spontaneously in 2007, shortly after the opening of the adventure trail, at the first sight of another grape sculpture by the artist Adolf Mayer in Tramin (South Tyrol). It made sense to find the artist because a cluster of stones would fit wonderfully with the “wine and stone” theme of the path. However, “thinking” about it took 3 years, because after all it shouldn’t just be “any” anonymous grape, but rather it should tell its own story if possible. This ultimately gave rise to the idea of documenting the fact that our Hessische Bergstrasse is now a center for the cultivation of red Riesling. At the same time, the history of the origins of our most important grape variety – white Riesling – could be shown. On June 6, 2010, I finally shared this idea with Mr. Adolf Mayer, who responded immediately.
