The building, completed in 1952, was demolished in 2013 and the entire yard has since been renovated to make way for a new station designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Completion originally planned for 2015 to mark the celebration of Mons as European Capital of Culture in that year has still not been completed.

The old station building has been demolished and the entire yard is under renovation to make way for a new station designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
Two island platforms are only accessible via long walking routes and temporary footbridges.
