The Hexenturm was built in 1603 and is the most stately tower of the original 7 towers and 3 rondels of the almost completely preserved city wall. In the 17th century the alleged "witches" were arrested here, locked in iron, interrogated and tortured and forced to confess. Today there is a gallery in the tower keeper's house. The tower can be reached via Mangersgasse or Mauerstraße.

The witch tower was built in 1603 and is the most stately tower of a total of originally 7 towers and 3 rondels of the almost completely preserved city wall. In the 17th century the alleged "witches" were arrested here, locked in irons, interrogated and tortured and forced to confess. Until 1922 there was a tower house on the city wall next to the tower. This was rebuilt in 1996 based on historical models. Today it houses a gallery.

Hiking

There were three city gates and a gate at the witch tower.
The defense towers are e.g. according to more recent names around the bridge gate, the half tower, the witch tower, the upper tower, the castle tower, the western corner tower and the meadow tower.
One man and eight women were executed, one died under torture.
The witch tower on the west side of the city wall is still a reminder of this era today.
