At this point, a large Pril cuts from the south across the salt marshes and the dune landscape of the East Heller. Even on nice days, the flood reaches here. The path through the salt marshes, which leads a little further south, is then not passable. A storm surge can divide the island into two parts.

If you want to hike to the east end of Norderney with dry feet, you should start at low tide. At low tide the pril falls dry; otherwise the water can be waist-high.
