Road is a bit of a stretch... technically it's paved, practically there are many parts that are similar to the Fosse Way. Still, it's eminently doable on a road bike (though this maybe different in the winter) and it's a great way to avoid the busier main road when heading to or from Castle Combe. There's also a house around halfway along the road with the most wonderful Wisteria growing up the walls.
