The breakthrough of the former Kleinschmalkalden - Brotterode railway line shortly before the Auwallenburg loading station is very spectacular and geologically very interesting. At a height of 16 m, the bridge of a forest path spans the cut. Today the Mommelstein cycle path runs along here.
Freight traffic from Kleinschmalkalden to Auwallenburg was discontinued on January 31, 1994. The line was dismantled in 2001/02.
A railway cycle path, the Mommelstein cycle path, was built on part of the route.
