The Hammelsberg nature reserve consists of many quarries and mining areas that have become a paradise for insects and reptiles. The insect fauna of the Hammelsberg has been scientifically studied for a long time. Almost 70 different species of the around 110 day butterflies found in Saarland were found here. The brightly colored swallowtail and many blues feel just as comfortable on the Hammelsberg as the globally threatened scabiosa piebald. Source: Text information board
