On the site of the former "Ewald Forts" mine in Oer-Erkenschwick, a development association runs a small but fine mining and history museum. Upon agreement, guided tours can be arranged. Former miners explain the history of the colliery and give interesting information about the mining industry. The entrance costs 3 Euro per person.

Mountain biking

The museum, founded in 2002, is located on the site of the Ewald colliery, which was closed a year earlier. According to the company, “interesting, curious, useful and beautiful things from the ‘good old mining days’” can be seen here. Most of the objects come from the Ewald-Continuation mine, but some came into the collection on loan from club members or through public appeals. Many of the machines were still in use at the time the mine was closed.
