The museum, founded in 2002, is located on the site of the Ewald colliery, which was closed a year earlier. According to the company, “interesting, curious, useful and beautiful things from the ‘good old mining days’” can be seen here. Most of the objects come from the Ewald-Continuation mine, but some came into the collection on loan from club members or through public appeals. Many of the machines were still in use at the time the mine was closed.

The collection spectrum ranges from everyday life and work to mining and mining technology and is documented with a large number of objects. One room contains mining memorabilia and artifacts, including lights, carvings, fossils and minerals, and a fossil tree trunk. Another room shows a lamp room, a collection of mine telephones and a variety of objects from rescue services, including gas sample containers and a bellows pump for a pressure hose device. Another part of the museum shows original furnishings typical of miners' apartments from the 1950s to 1960s. A self-contained part of the collection is Ewald's former teaching gallery. On display here are, among other things: a conveyor belt, an extension for a coal planer with control device, a head loader and a monorail overhead conveyor. There is also a complete blind shaft with a winding machine, a weather door and a mine locomotive. Of the large objects in the open-air area, a dismantled Eickhoff SL 500 roller loader from the Saarland mining industry and an associated sign are noteworthy, along with an above-ground locomotive. : Source: Mining and History Association Oer-Erkenschwick e.V.
