The so-called Sperrwerk Plätzwiese (in the k.u.k. Austro-Hungarian military administration was on the border with Italy with two exceptions "Fort" the term "lock" or "factory" in use) located at 2040 m altitude on the plateau Plätzwiese near the Dürrensteinhütte. It lies exactly on the border of the South Tyrolean communities Dobbiaco and Braies. Task of the work was together with the work Landro securing the Höhlensteintals / Stollatals and thus the access to Pustertal, especially since the village and the cauldron of Cortina d'Ampezzo had been abandoned in May 1915 by the Austrians and initially only the Monte Piano Breakthrough prevented. It belonged to the system of Austrian fortifications at the former imperial border with Italy.
