The former “Plätzwiese barrage” is located directly opposite the Dürrensteinhütte. The ruins of an old Austro-Hungarian fortification are a relic from the First World War. It was built at the end of the 19th century to secure the nearby Landro Valley and to block enemy access to the Puster Valley. Unfortunately, the building is not open to visitors.

Family-run hut with an extremely friendly host couple and great employees. There are overnight accommodations in rooms or camps.

The so-called barrage Plätzwiese (in the k.u.k. Austro-Hungarian military administration on the border with Italy with two exceptions instead of “fort” the name “lock” or “work” was used) is located at 2040 m altitude on the high plateau Plätzwiese near the Dürrensteinhütte. It lies exactly on the border of the South Tyrolean communities Toblach and Braies. The task of the plant, together with the Landro plant, was to secure the Höhlensteintal / Stollatal and thus the access to the Pustertal, especially since the village and the basin of Cortina d'Ampezzo had been abandoned by the Austrians in May 1915 and initially only the Monte Piano Breakthrough prevented. It belonged to the system of Austrian fortifications on the then imperial border with Italy.
