The Hartelpark, located on the northern border of Spijkenisse, is an urban fringe park and forms a green buffer between the buildings and the Botlek industrial area. This park consists of 2 parts, Hartel West middle (approx. 50 ha.) and Hartel East (approx. 20 ha.). Hartel Oost was laid out in 1970 in the English landscape style, while the strip with brick round bins (formerly sandpits) on the southern edge was already laid out in 1963.

Hartel Oost is a wooded park with many cultivated trees and shrubs (including the Metasequoia glyptostroboides and the Taxodium or Bald cypress), with beautiful views with depth image. The soil consists of nutrient-rich clay with a peat layer underneath.

In 1992 it was decided to manage the park ecologically. 3 Galloways recently moved. Scottish Highlanders have replaced it. There are also creeks and pools dug with natural banks. This created more opportunities for the development of plant species richness and the animal species living in it.

The Western Park contains, among other things, the general cemetery, crematorium and an animal shelter. There are cycling and walking paths between groves. Deer are regularly seen in the grasslands!
