The Mallebos is not completely accessible. The Mallebos is managed by Staatsbosbeheer and has a high nature value due to its natural banks, spawning bowls for fish and the nest wall for kingfishers. The most famous part of the forest is the inaccessible part of heron forest. Here a colony of blue herons has found its place and made a number of nests. The area is clearly visible from the Konijnendijk and Malledijk.
