From 1905 to 1963, the four steam locomotives 99 7201 to 99 7204 were in service on the Mosbach-Mudau narrow-gauge railway. Then they were replaced by diesel locomotives. 1973 came the final end for the route. Mudau station and most of the other stations on the route have been preserved. The former route is well signposted as a "hiking railway" and invites hikers and cyclists to a car-free excursion.
