Haaksbergen Fens:
The Haaksbergerveen (Haaksbergener Venn) is an approximately 600-hectare nature reserve in the border area of the Dutch province of Overijssel (southeast of the Dutch city of Haaksbergen) and the district of Borken/Germany. It used to be an extensive high moor area; in the last century peat was mined, which the Dutch also call 'black gold'. Due to rewetting measures in the past, the remaining peat plots covered with raised bog vegetation have been transformed into alluvial bogs, the vegetation of which is very similar to swamp heath.
Here you can see a unique paradise of a bog complex for numerous plant and animal species.
