Mühlenplatz is a fantastic open-air museum with 1:40 scale models. The centerpiece are the numerous water mills from all over Germany. The mill wheels are driven by a natural stream, which is cleverly used via artificial ditches and bridges. In addition, there are numerous miniatures of castles and palaces, churches, monuments and special buildings in the exhibition with a focus on northern Hesse. A wonderful facility that must be seen!

The Mühlenplatz is a beautiful little open-air museum.

On the western edge of the climatic health resort of Gieselwerder, part of the municipality of Oberweser, where the small Lumbach leaves the Reinhardswald, you will find the open-air exhibition "Der Mühlenplatz" on a forest meadow (3000 sqm).

In the spacious, lovingly designed complex there are water mills, castles and palaces, churches and town halls. They are miniatures of old buildings, faithfully reproduced on a scale of 1:25 and 1:40. The clear mountain water of the Lumbach flows over delicate channels and sets the numerous mill wheels in motion. Churches in our area are grouped together in one section, while another shows historic town halls.

A special eye-catcher, however, are the well-known hilltop castles, moated castles and palace complexes. This facility, which started out as a hobby in 1969, soon became a popular destination. Supplemented from year to year by a wide variety of models and harmoniously adapted to the landscape, today it offers an interesting and worth seeing presentation of buildings worth preserving.
