In the hunting lodge there is an extensive exhibition on the history of the monastery.
It was dissolved in 1534 as part of the Reformation and part of the complex was converted into a hunting lodge between 1620 and 1623.
If the monastery ruins were demolished in 1718, they were preserved and became increasingly of historical and artistic interest.
The town's guest books have been preserved since 1796, and Schiller, Melchior, Schinkel, von Humboldt, von Goethe, Bechstein and many others have stayed here.
Later, Paulinzella was a must-visit for travelers interested in art from Thuringia.
