The history of Montovolo is fascinating because it seems to have been an ancient Etruscan oracular center. The rocks of the mountain have been excavated over the centuries to extract the particular pietra serena or Montovolo stone, whose tradition is alive thanks to the incessant cultural work of the stonecutters.
