This church is dedicated to James the Elder (Saint-Jacques), probably the most prominent apostle and national saint of Spain (alongside Peter and Paul). The European network of the Way of St. James leads pilgrims to his grave, usually marked by the symbol of the yellow shell on a blue background. This is located in the northern Spanish town of 'Santiago de Compostella', where he rests in a magnificent basilica built in his honor.
The martyrdom (execution) of James is recorded by the evangelist Luke in the New Testament "Acts of the Apostles". The feast day of Saint James in the calendar of saints is July 25th.

Nice place in front of the church. There is also a beautiful, colorful statue of Cyrano the Bergerac and there are a few restaurants and a good ice cream parlor.
