One of the very few places in the Eifel (or the whole world!) Where the rare calamine violet blooms. Thanks to its cooperation with mushrooms, it can cope with high levels of heavy metals in the soil (calamine = zinc ore) like hardly any other plant, for example it has found its (low-competitive) place on old waste dumps for metal extraction, as otherwise hardly anything grows there. The flowering reaches its peak in mid-May, but individual violets in bloom can be found until September.
