The Saubach meanders dreamily through the forest.
Trainers and a brave step are enough to overcome the ditch. A few meters of footpath lead to a small bridge. From here you can enjoy the idyll without having to dig deeper into the nature reserve.

The Saubach (also called Merzbach) has its source in the western Propsteier Forest and flows eastwards around its southwestern and southern flanks. The north-flowing Merzbach rises near its source and the ore mine Grube Glücksburg was located there.Since 1935, when the largely cleared south-west part of the Propsteier Forest, the so-called Steinbachshochwald, was demerged from Eschweiler to Stolberg, its lower third, together with its confluence with the Inde, has been in the Stolberg area. Before it flows into the Inde at the Steinfurt sewage treatment plant, it absorbs heavy impurities from the so-called Vegla polders (including humic acid and hydrogen sulfide) and from the overburden heap of the former chemical factory Rhenania AG (thin acid) in Stolberg-Atsch.[4 ]The Saubach is a 7.4 km long left tributary of the Inde in the Eschweiler-Stolberg area in the North Rhine-Westphalian city region of Aachen.
According to the 2001 water quality report of the State Environment Agency of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Saubach had the highest pollution level with a water quality class IV.[5]In 2007, a treatment plant for leachate from the Vegla polders was put into operation on Saint Gobain Glass's northern site, and the discharges into the Inde have been cleaner since then.

The path to the footbridge is unfortunately a bit overgrown, but it's still quite easy to get there. The Saubach meanders particularly idyllicly through the forest at this point, making it inviting to take a break.
