Nature Experience Area Ruhr (Natur-Erlebnis-Raum Ruhr)

Everything was different here a few years ago: industrialization transformed the Ruhr in the Arnsberg urban area into the late 20th century and fortified it with stones on both sides. Numerous weirs jammed the water that was used for industrial purposes. The result: The developed and relatively narrow Ruhr was not very attractive and was considered by the citizens rather as "troublesome" waters. This changed from the year 2000. As part of several renaturation measures, the old bank fortification was removed, so that the Ruhr was able to find their own way through Arnsberg. Within a few years left and right of the water created a lush flora that lets one forget that directly behind it are residential buildings. Today you will hike along a small path through a beautiful meadow landscape, passing a playground, a weir and sometimes even one of a group of cattle cattle.
