The Gothic House with its magnificent facade stands for Xanten's blooming time
The Gothic House on the market was probably built in 1540, probably with tuff stones from the Roman settlement Colonia Ulpia Traiana. Large parts of the facade, the walls and the roof structure and the wooden beam ceilings, whose wood was verifiably felled in 1539/1540, were preserved. The stepped gable and the numerous windows are striking.
Originally it served as a trading and office building for a wealthy family. In the 18th century it was the mayor's office in Xanten and was called "Zum Pfau".
Today it is a restaurant and impresses guests with its historical ambience.
