When the main communist leader and founder of the Soviet Union Vladimir Lenin died in 1924, the Soviet government decided to embalm his body and bury it in a mausoleum on Red Square in Moscow. The monumental stone tomb was opened in 1930.

From 1953 to 1961 the body of Josef Stalin was also laid out here.

Entry is free. The visit only takes a few minutes.

Cell phones, photo and video cameras, large bags, bags or backpacks are not allowed inside.

Hmm... It was interesting to see it back then. But there are some "unpleasant" memories. For example, there was a white line painted that you weren't allowed to cross while waiting in line at the mausoleum. One foot was next to it, and whoosh, I had a militiaman's rubber truncheon on my leg! Waiting 1.5 hours in 9 degrees wasn't all that exciting either.

In the mausoleum, there were guards standing every few meters with their index fingers to their mouths, demanding quiet with a "sh." Whether that was still the real Lenin... who knows. It certainly looked strange...

But that was long before the fall of the Wall. What it's like there now – I have no idea – and I certainly won't see it with my own eyes again...
