The indicated “path” back to the village is more of a slide than a path, it’s plain terrible. At places it’d be better to follow the main road, but there too you have a problem - local drivers who drive like idiots. Still, the view on top is amazing, just consider going back the same way you will come there from.

If you do not have a rental car, you can either take a shared taxi from the Tbilisi Didube bus station (prices from 10 to 25 Lari / person) or take a private taxi (price 100 Lari), travel time approx. 3-3.5 h depending on the driving style of the driver ( partly adventurous). The road to Russia is heavily used by both private cars and heavy trucks, daring overtaking maneuvers, sometimes in tight bends, are not uncommon.

Attention on the return trip to Tbilisi, here the taxi drivers try to push the prices up properly (private taxi offer was 200-250 Lari), here you should persistently, but friendly negotiate!

It is generally worth traveling to Georgia with a rental car, because the transit times of bus / train are relatively long and you can flexibly get to smaller sights without having to hire a taxi driver every time!
