Brünkendorf emerged in the 12th and 13th centuries with the German settlement.
Brünkendorf's first documentary mention dates from 1350. The name Brünkendorf, which suggests the town's founder Brunik, Brunecke or in German Bruno (village of Brunik), indicates a previous Slavic settlement. Brünkendorf was owned by the Knight of Thun until 1351 and then returned to the sovereigns of Mecklenburg. In 1898 Brünkendorf belonged to the Ribnitz Cathedral Office.
At that time there were 4 hereditary tenants, 21 Büdner, 7 cottagers, 12 residents and 1 teacher living in Brünkendorf. Around 1911, a steam dairy is operated in Brünkendorf, which processes the milk from the surrounding areas, so there was always a lot of activity in the village.
