Gut Manhagen is a former estate from 1575. There is an English house, a water mill and a windmill, a fisherman's house, a tenant house and various other farm buildings on the estate. Between 1920 and 1930, Erich Tgahrt, the CEO of Hoesch, bought it as a country estate and converted the house and fisherman's house. In 2008 Thomas Hoof bought the estate to use it primarily for agricultural experiments. Between 2009 and 2012 the 7 residential and farm buildings were completely renovated and two new farm buildings were built.
The English house is a five-axis brick building with a central entrance and a mansard roof in the English style, which was lengthened by a third in the early 1930s. The historic watermill was built in its current location in 1575 and rebuilt after a fire in March 1837. It was in operation up to the time of the 1st World War and is the only intact mill in Schleswig-Holstein that works underleaving. The windmill built on the Manhagener Berg in 1837 is a so-called "Kellerholländer". At that time the fisherman's house was the home of the mill and fishing tenants from Manhagen. The year of construction is unknown, but parts of the stalls indicate a great age. The thatched-roof building can still be recognized as a half-timbered house with a gable on the lake side and a cross-plank gate on the courtyard side. The large tenant house was built at the end of the 19th century as a residential and farm building for the agricultural manager.
Today the English house and the fisherman's house are used as holiday homes. Furthermore, Gut Manhagen is still used for agriculture.
