Bike Touring Highlight
The Brahmsee is a typical lowland or lowland lake in the center of Schleswig-Holstein. It is located about 20 km southwest of the state capital Kiel in the Westensee Nature Park, is about 1 km ² in size and up to 10.4 m deep.
Directly on the eastern shore of the lake is the municipality Langwedel, on the southwestern shore of the municipality Eisendorf. Both in Eisendorf, as well as in Langwedel there are bathing areas. In its western part, the lake merges into the Wardersee.
Oriented towards the WFD, it is a lime-rich, uncoated lake with a large catchment area. The lake is a glacial channel that dates back to the Weichselian period. It is part of a so-called glacial channel with the Pohlsee in the north and the Borgdorfer See in the south. The name of the lake goes back to a Low German hall designation and thereby on the formerly for the heathland formative broom (Low German: Bram) back. The lake belongs to the nature park Westensee, a landscape area, which is designated in the landscape plan of Schleswig-Holstein above all for the recreational use. On the lake shores are therefore many cottages, campsites and the youth leisure homes Jugendheim / campground Brahmsee and the Waldheim am Brahmsee.
Until the 1990s, the lake was commercially exploited. Today it is only used as angling waters by recreational anglers. The Brahmsee was made famous by the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who invited many guests from international politics and business to his local weekend house. The lake is privately owned. Driving and handling is permitted only to residents who have purchased a license from the owner.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahmsee
