How beautiful a large white farm is, in a very quiet and beautiful environment, you have to see for yourself...

Isolated in the heart of the Brabant plateau, the Wahenges farm marks the landscape with its white quadrilateral volumes. This fertile site notably hosted a Gallo-Roman villa and in the 12th century, according to the archives, a farm dependent on the Averbode abbey. Following the destruction of the wars of the 17th century, the buildings were rebuilt from 1718 to 1784 to form a coherent whole around a central courtyard. This concern for coherence affects both the functions and the materials: constructions of bricks and sandstone limestone from Gobertange whitewashed under slate roofs.

The largest volume, to the south, is a long barn, built in 1718. A smaller attic, dating from 1769, extends it to the east. The southwest and northwest wings are occupied by stables, built between 1718 and 1729 and in 1784. A dovecote dominates the entrance porch, dated “1724” and a main building completes the quadrangle in 1729. It underwent several expansions and transformations: addition in 1742 of a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas attached to the rear of the building, itself lengthened around 1832-50. In 1816, the decoration was brought up to date, incorporating wallpaper from the French Züber workshops. Having become private property following the secularization of Church property in 1795, this farm constitutes one of the finest examples of rural architecture in Hesbaye.
