The romantic half-timbered town of Hornburg is located in the Harz foothills, embedded in the Ilsetal. It was created around 1017 years ago and is the birthplace of Pope Clemens II.

Hornburg, the specialist workshop in the Wolfenbüttel district!

The majority of the largest and most magnificent half-timbered houses are located here
      the city. They include:
Marktstrasse 18, Renaissance. Former trading house, built at the beginning of the 17th century. Very high basement, which was formerly furnished with a hallway and built-in mezzanine for residential purposes. The two additional storeys and the high floor were used exclusively for the storage of merchandise. As a decorative motif, the client chose the "Halberstadt blind arcade frieze", which is unusual for Hornburg. Ridge stitch beams are visible at the corners of the floors.

Marktstrasse 14, built in 1609. Former trading house and council pharmacy. Considered the most beautiful half-timbered house in Hornburg. Decorative motifs of different style epochs: foliage sticks in a wavy band (late Gothic), diamond bands (late Renaissance), fittings on the wooden triangles (mannerism).
Markt 10, the oldest house on the market, built around 1530. Late Gothic stirrup frieze, the second oldest form of jewelry after the stair frieze (Wasserstraße 15). Ridge stitch beams are visible at the corners of the floors.
Markt 8, Renaissance residential building, built in 1560. Stadtschreiberei from 1642– 1755.
Marktstrasse 4, former official mill. Baroque successor to the mill designed by Merian in 1641.
