Oberharmersbach, a village nestled in a valley with many side valleys, has a population of around 2,500. The inhabitants of this valley came into contact with Christianity very early on.
A "parish church in Oberharmersbach" is documented as early as 1206. At that time, the religious life of the community was closely linked to the monastery in Gengenbach and the Diocese of Strasbourg. Since 1821, the parish of St. Gallus in Oberharmersbach has belonged to the Archdiocese of Freiburg.
